IP/MPLS Network Specialist (UK)

Overall Purpose of Job
Provide technical expertise during the implementation of network devices and new routes on the global MPLS network with high availability and strict adherence to SLA parameters for MTBF, MTTR, Jitter, Latency and Packet loss. Work with the network Architect to write Network-wide HLD and LLD.

Participate in network planning meetings, and provide low-level plans for major network changes with detailed diagrams and full scope of works for physical and logical work.
Responsible for network documentation and ensuring base configurations on all devices are consistent and up to date in line with design LLD.

Work in close collaboration with the service assurance team to ensure they have the necessary documentation to support the network and all monitoring is set up for all network metrics to enable proactive monitoring of backbone and customer services.

Support the capacity management team with data collection and provide up to date details of utilisation and support capacity management team by executing migrations to free up capacity.
Act as Level 3 escalation for network outages and complex customer issues, as well as provide technical support to Service Delivery teams and Technical sales for complex orders and high-value bids.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design Network topology changes and oversees the implementation
  • Update outdated network documentation as well as provide clear network documentation for network updates on an ongoing basis
  • Adhere to change control process for any network changes
  • Follow evolving technology trends and understand the underlining technical details (rfc etc)
  • Assistance with HLD and LDD development where needed
  • Ongoing maintenance and updates to provisioning procedures for data services
  • Development of Service assurance procedures and ‘how-to’ for complex troubleshooting as part of service assurance continuous improvement approach
  • Take part in vendor hardware, software and services selection where required
  • Write technical stories for automation development as required
  • Drive best practice for alarm and event clearing and assurance practice into NOC teams
  • Support SMC and Provisioning capabilities when needed
  • Provide guidance for technical sales team when needed
  • Support day to day network operation where required
  • Participate in product development discussions

Job Requirements
  • Self-motivated individual driven by evolving technology developing business benefits.
  • Extensive experience working with the following protocols; IP/MPLS, IPV6, OSPF, OSPFv3, IS-IS, BGP, MP-BGP, RSVP-TE, LDP, VPLS, L2Circuit
  • Expert knowledge of Junos OS and SNMP polling platforms.
  • Extensive Knowledge of test equipment and troubleshooting techniques used to provide analysis, and service, functional problem analysis and or repair
  • Ability to solve design and operational problems, plan and schedule complex communication system or services upgrades, modifications, and new equipment acquisition and installation
  • Excellent ability to multi-task and prioritize backlogged work
  • Track record of success in this industry with specific background in data network and it’s recent evolutions over the last 5 years
  • Degree and/or equivalent Technology related achievement
  • Desired Skills and Achievements:
  • Expert working knowledge of Junos Space, CSD, and Contrail
  • Experience using scripting languages such as Python and Ansible etc for automation of network configuration and data collection
  • Experience with Path Computation Engine platforms such as Juniper Northstar, ONOS PCE+, etc.
  • Hold a valid JNCIP or JNCIE certificate and have had at least 2 years practical experience since passing the exam
  • Experience working with Nokia 7750SR and 5620 SAM platforms
  • Possess a “can do” attitude and take action promptly.
  • Able to multi-task and learn new technologies quickly.
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrate the desire to close issues.
  • Able to go the extra mile in providing excellent support.
