Inventory Data Technician (BG)


Overall Purpose of Job
This role is dedicated to the initial data fill of the inventory database, working with and instructing field engineers to do physical audits of racks and cabling within racks. After the initial inventory data fill, the Inventory Data Technician will oversee and ensure the correctness of data being entered into the inventory system. This is not a hands-on technical role but is office-based and would suit someone with field support knowledge who understands and is capable of inputting the technical information required to be accurately recorded into our inventory database.
Work with the engineering team, the NOC teams and field engineers to interface with the inhouse developers of the inventory system to improve the system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for ensuring all physical equipment, all cabling and all ODFs are available and visible in the inventory system.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the data entered into the inventory system is correct. 
  • Planning of activities with the project managers and field teams
  • Overseeing the auditing of telecoms equipment & associated cabling, managing the field resources or 3rd parties tasked to audit the racks and equipment.
  • Governance where needed and full adherence to the change control processes, Naming conventions, design & configuration standards if applicable
  • Detailed reporting and administration of activities & or Networking & or costing data
  • Provide training and guidance to other teams on how to use the system and how to data fill the system on an on-going basis.
  • Owner of the data in the inventory system.

Job Requirements
  •  1-2 years of experience working as field engineer for a network service provider, in the colocation space or as a network engineer working in operations with responsibility in the deployment of equipment in racks. 
  • Has an understanding of telecom racks, equipment, and cabling in colocation centers. 
  • Methodical in approach and ability to work on multiple projects at the same time without losing control. Previous project management experience useful.
  • Excellent communication skills that leads from the front to ensure tasks get completed within expected timeframes.
  • Ability to use MS Office, O365 and Teams 
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Possess “can do” attitude and take action promptly.
  • Able to multi-task and learn new technologies quickly.
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrate a desire to close issues.
  • Able to go the extra mile in providing excellent support.
