DCN SOLUTION FOR SERVICE PROVIDERS


The Data Communication Network (DCN) is a dedicated network configured on transmission networks. It enables the flow of element management data back to the EMS (Element Management System) or NMS (Network Management System).

The DCN network must be provisioned to all the relevant equipment sites where network elements have to be brought under management. This solution can be built in one of two ways; either IN BAND utilising the same backbone bandwidth on which the customer traffic is also present, or on a separate supplier network which increases the level of diversity.

When using IN BAND communications there are different configuration options dependant on whether the supplier bandwidth is SDH based or wavelength based. However, with in site isolation scenarios where both east and west directions are lost, OUT OF BAND management would still permit full access to each NE on the extraneous DCN.   This then allows for full fault diagnosis and alarm reporting.

One option is to set up ISDN dial up connections which are usually difficult to order if the operators have no legal entity in the respective country. Therefore the local Carrier will not sell this retail product to non-residents or businesses. The other easier option is to have the bandwidth provided by a third party to assemble the OUT OF BAND DCN solution.

They can also procure the underlying network providers and commission the necessary links. The Epsilon team has a solid understanding of building and operating international transmission networks and will be able to provide and ensure that the most effective route to the relevant telecom sites are procured and delivered.

The customer will have a dedicated Carrier Delivery Manager who will manage the entire project from the beginning to the hand over date.
